THE MONEY TIME MACHINE

The Money Time Machine is a prototype for a website that looks into the history of European currencies that pre-date the Euro. It features 20 different currencies. The front page also contains a currency convertor that can show the rate at which each currency is fixed at the time of demonetisation. This website was conceived as part of a data visualisation project, as you navigate through the website and get to learn about the different currencies you will encounter a scroll element that finds a way to represent data in an interactive way. The currency used for the prototype was the Italian Lira, as it is fixed at the highest rate comparatively to the Euro, and to visually showcase it there is a significantly long horizontal scroll with different checkpoints and information, finally reaching the Euro at around 1900 Liras. The page also includes a small description of the coin and it’s history.
